Nix-the-Nine Campaign

Call in to state your opinion during a committee hearing

CALL In DURING the LIVE HEARING to provide your opinion on a BILL

Context:

The author of the bill will speak and then 1-2 people may testify in support or opposition to the bill.  Then the clerk will give a phone number and open the lines for phone-call testimony. The number will also appear at the bottom of the screen.

Supporters speak first; then the opposition speaks. The protocol is to take 15 seconds or less to give name, (title) group, and # of people you represent - or “speaking for myself” if you’re an elected official and your group hasn’t taken an official stance. To build awareness of the mounting opposition to the full package of housing bills, please say, “I/we urge you to NIX (this bill) and Nix the Nine.

Procedure:

1.     Call the phone number provided on the meeting link and enter the Committee Meeting access number provided on the meeting link.

2.       Enter 1 and 0.

3.       A Call Manager will then give you a number.  Remember this number. Write it down because you may have to wait a long time before the Call Manager calls on you by this number. For example: “Caller 234, your line is now open.”

4.       When it’s your turn, the Call Manager will tell you to enter 1 and 0 and then you can speak.

5.       The Call Manager will mute your line if you go on beyond their comfort level.

Thanks for being part of the call-in to register opposition to the specific bills and your effort to Nix the Nine.
